Basilica di San Marco

Located in heart of Milan between Castello Sforzesco and the Giardini Pubblici, Basilica San Marco was named after the famous Basilica in Venice of the same name in an effort to pay homage to the Venetians for their aid in reconstructing the city after Barbarian invasions. Constructed in 1240 in Gothic style, renovations made in the mid 18th century added baroque features to church. The ornate interior features frescos highlighting the stories of St. Peter and St. Paul, and a plaque commemorates the time Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart spent here as a boy.
